      Rik is an educated man who has a message to deliver: The planet Florina faces imminent destruction. When he delivers his message to those who rely on the precious product created on Florina, he's kidnapped, brainwashed, and left to make his own way among the workers there. Kevin Collins communicates the gravity of the threat to the universe and the failure of those in power to heed it, due to economic interests. Collins uses accents of various types to create characters of different classes, and to show distinctions in the status of those within classes.       This second title in Asimov's three-book "Galactic Empire" seriesthe entirety of which will be available from BBC Audiobooks America in late 2010revolves around a man with amnesia who may be the key to a planet's survival. A curious relic of 1950s sf, it actually reads more like a contemporary mystery or thriller. Like its prequel, "The Stars, Like Dust" (1951), it depicts gender roles in ways already laughably out-of-date, but its stronger plot renders it compelling enough to attract new audiences. Actor/singer Kevin T. Collins's narration is adequate; however, the thick accents of present-day ethnic groups he employs make it hard to remember that this story is set many millennia in the future.
